RESEARCH: What is the purpose of a title sequence and film opening?

whats the purpose of a title sequence?

A title sequence, opening sequence or intro is the method by which films or television programs to showcase the cast and crew involved in the production, by using a range of visuals and sound.

The purpose of a film opening is t entice the audience, so they can carry on watching the film, a film opening should also establish the characters and genre of the film, this can be done in many ways...
FLASHBACKS:
a scene in a film that sets the narrative back in time, to a key event that has happened in there life, this happens in a short part of the film of through out.

PLANNING OF A LANDSCAPE/ESTABLISHING SHOT:
this is used to set the scene, and inform the audience where the film is taking place.

CHASE SCENE:
like in action films, this also catches the audiences attention, as they want to see what happens after the chase.
SOUND TRACK:
the use of tone, volume and tempo, can create a mood, which indicates what type of genre the film is.

CREDITS
opening titles are shown at the very beginning and list the most important members of the production.

credits are used to promote an actor, which then allows an actor to develop a positive association with a particular format, genre or production company

status and importance help to develop career sometimes actors are credited with production roles

Depending of the film genre some directors like to create a sense of mystery in there film opening, they do this by lack of credits or not introducing the main character in the beginning
